Multivariate optimization of a high brightness dc gun photoinjector
1098-4402= We have conducted a multiobjective computational optimization of a high brightness, high average current photoinjector under development at Cornell University. This injector employs a dc photoemission electron gun. Using evolutionary algorithms combined with parallel computing resources, the multivariate parameter space of the photoinjector was explored for optimal values. This power...

متن کاملElectron Beam and Rf Characterization of a High- Brightness X-band Photoinjector
We report detailed experimental results on an X-band (8.547 GHz) rf photoinjector, currently being commissioned at UC Davis on the LLNL site. The device operates with an average accelerating gradient in the 50100 MeV/m range, and produces relativistic (1.5-2 MeV) photoelectron bunches, with a measured relative energy spread < 1.8%, at the resolution limit of our energy spectrometer. The measure...
متن کاملElectron Beam-laser Interaction near the Cathode in a High Brightness Photoinjector
The production of high charge short bunches in a high brightness photoinjector requires laser pulses driving the cathode with GW range peak power on a mm spot size. The resulting transverse electric field experienced by the electron beam near the cathode is of the order of 200-500 MV/m, well in excess of a typical RF accelerating field of 50-100 MV/m. We present here a preliminary study of the ...
متن کاملA HIGH GRADIENT 17 GHz RF GUN FOR THE PRODUCTION OF HIGH BRIGHTNESS ELECTRON BEAMS
We report on the design and construction of a new, tuneable, 1.5 cell 17 GHz RF gun and improved beamline. Emittance compensation in the new beamline is achieved with a 6.5 cm long, 0.5 T solenoid placed immediately after the RF Gun. Simulations predict a normalized rms emittance of 0.5 πmm-mrad for a 1 ps, 0.1 nC, 2.4 MeV beam. Emittance measurement diagnostic slits have also been designed and...
